A05 -Cryo-cooled microstructure systems

Temperatures in the range of 80 K (150 K) to about 2 K open new opportunities for measurement and process technology. At these low temperatures, thermal noise of sensors or samples to be measured becomes almost negligible. The sensitivity of sensors based on thermodynamic principles is raised drastically. Extremely exothermic processes become available to in-situ and operando analysis, and characteristics of materials change strongly. The project aims to generate miniaturized equipment to provide the cooling power needed to reach such low temperatures for new magnetic material samples, NMR hyphenation as well as high performance magnets and sensors.
